Good Time

Our first ever single

It’s almost here

Written, recorded and ready for release

Good Time… One song,…one truly incredible journey…..

So, what is Good Time?
On the surface it’s a catchy, roots style kiwi song smooth in its delivery of a summery theme. ..exactly as it’s intended to be. Laid back cruising through a sunny Aotearoa summer with good friends, whanau, aroha, beaches and great tunes. Warm guitar hooks that support passionate vocals all bound together with soulful groove and beats. Everything that is White Chapel Jak. A good time. Dig a little deeper though and you’ll notice the depth of the lyrics and the introspective journey here into self awareness, empowerment and finding ones true self amidst all the noise and challenges thrown at our souls.

So that is Good Time. A melodic Kiwiana tune underlapped with a positive, empowering message. But for us as a band, this recording and release represents all of that and much more. It is an experience encompassing of our entire journey to this point. A musical odyssey of friendship, whanau, of growth, challenges, dreams, a tonne of hard work but above all else, a journey of aroha.

It is quite a difficult notion to consider summarising and putting into words just exactly what that means for us. Our musical journey stretches back over seven years as a band but then goes back most of our lives for each individual member. Each of us can share stories of past insecurities on stage, disheartening performances, dysfunctional band relationships, discouraging people and cringe worthy situations that can make one truly question whether this is what you really want to be doing. To work through each and every one of these requires a foundational love for playing music. That resounding passion for creating magical sounds and sharing the intimacy of that craft is what has continually bought each of us back for more and slowly, ever so slowly lead us to connecting with the right people to enhance that journey. Each and every step has helped grow and shape us as individual musicians whom now bring those musical stories to the creative process of our first single.

Then there is the love we’ve shared as a group over years of performing through literally hundreds and hundreds of gigs. This is time spent squeezed together into one vehicle for hours on the road, sharing hotel rooms of every type and standard one can imagine, meal times, social times, back stage times and then we hit the stage to share an intensely intimate soul baring experience. There has been long stretches where our time spent together on the road performing has been more than that of time at home with our loved ones. It’s a surreal state of being and one that cannot survive without love for the people you are sharing this with. Friendships are quickly formed, quickly tested then with the right crew of people and management on board, it grows into a loving whanau. It is these years of playing and working together in this musical whanau that has finally lead to the creation of our own music. Every single ounce of that aroha grown over years, has been thrown at this song sincerely and whole heartedly in sheer celebration of our whanau.

One feeling that truly resounds louder than all others through this journey though, is the love for people we meet and play for along this road. That is you, dear reader and faithful listener. You are one of the most integral components of this journey and it is you who has helped shape us and sculpt our music. For us, this has come in an uncountable number of forms of beautifully delivered love parcels. It could have been a warm smile at a cold farmers market years ago, maybe a shared experience of love at one of the many weddings we performed at, sometimes it is the wonderful and loving conversations with you or even just the sheer brilliance of beautiful, glowing energy at a show. It has come from friends, from whanau, strangers, supporters, listeners, followers and show attendees. There has been hand written encouraging notes, carefully thought out gifts, emails, cards, conversations, a cold drink, a warm bite to eat… simply too many different types of wonderful bundles of joy to possibly list. Every single moment, EVERY single one of these has lifted our souls, put a smile on our hearts and driven us to play more, play better and do our absolute best to further those shared experiences of love with you all.
And so it is that at the very beginning of the next stage of this crazy ride and starting the creative process of our own music, you are behind us shaping it all. Your support, your smiles, your love and warmth has been guiding every step of our growth and is now driving our new music. Good Time is a song yes, but it is also an accumulation of years of music, traveling, playing, connecting, whanu and friends but perhaps best of all, it is a summary of your loving support.
So this is not my song , it is not yours, it is not anybody’s…it is ours. Good Time is for us all because it is about us all and created by us all….together. That is something wonderfully unique and surreally beautiful. We should all feel proud of the collective energy and love that we have created in this song. Your song, their song, my song…our song.

We thank you all for your support, for your smiles and your love. There is simply no way that we would be here about to take the exciting plunge from the top of this glorious, crazy musical rollercoaster ride without you all and we honestly couldn’t be happier. We sit safe in the knowledge that because you are there with us, the ride ahead is going to be something special…

…it’s going to be a good time…
